How Does OBi Work?

The OBi provides its users with control and convenience by combining a broadband Internet connection with VoIP from the comfort of a regular home phone.  If required, a land line connection to a local telephone company, a mobile telephone service provider or an Internet phone service can be used to realize big savings on phone calls when compared against the likes of a traditional telco or cable company based voice service.

The power of using an OBi becomes crystal clear when a commercial VoIP service (or two) is added to the OBi.  There are an abundance of VoIP services available which allow “Bring Your Own Device” or BYOD service models.  The OBiTALK web portal makes it easy to set-up the service and start using it to make and receive calls on the phone attached to the OBi.

A list of some popular BYOD service providers:

It's very easy to set-up almost any VoIP service on the OBi.  Just log-in to the OBiTALK portal, add an OBi device, then select and configure the VoIP service.

By accessing the OBiTALK web portal, OBi users employ social networking tools to bring their friends and family together to speak at a fraction of what using traditional land line or mobile voice services cost!  When it makes sense, the OBi can use the Internet and OBiTALK connectivity between OBi users.  In this case, a traditional phone service is never needed to make the connections. Talking becomes truly free.  This is because every OBi device and soft phone client, e.g. OBiON iPhone and Android, can call each other by simple dialing the other side’s 9-digit OBi No. When users are in each other’s Circle of Trust, they can make calls from their OBi device or use a friend’s OBi to complete a call.  An OBi Attendant helps callers route their call to their desired destination.
