As of last week,
we became aware of Google Voice connectivity issues for customers with the OBi1
Series (OBi100 and OBi110). After further investigation, we confirmed that the
current OBi1 Series software is no longer compatible with new Google Voice
server security requirements. With this change, Google Voice is no longer
compatible with the OBi1 Series. As you may have already known, in August
of 2016 we notified customers that the OBi1 Series devices had reached their
EOL (end of life) and would no longer be supported moving forward (reference
from EOL article below).
“…it is important to understand that Obihai
will no longer develop and release software updates…For example, if Google
Voice, Anveo or any other service makes changes in the way they deliver their
service where new software is required for the continued use the service with
the OBi device, it will not be made available for the OBi100 and OBi110”
Out with the Old - In with the New
Fortunately, the OBi2 Series (OBi200 and OBi202) are available to take the place of the venerable OBi1 Series. Both are fully supported and capable of using Google Voice as a service. We understand with all change comes concern. Don’t worry, the transition to the OBi2 Series is as easy as making a phone call. Take a look below on how to move your Google Voice and, if you have one, an Anveo E911 account to your new OBi2 Series device.
(Step 1): Log in to OBiTALK and delete your current Google Voice and Anveo accounts from
your OBi100/OBi110 device. You can do this by selecting the OBi100/OBi110 OBi
number from the Dashboard, then select the associated ‘Trash Can’ icon. This
will remove the Google Voice and Anveo E911 service from the old device’s
configuration.
(Step 2): Add the replacement OBi200/OBi202 device to your OBiTALK account by selecting the ‘Add Device’ link in the left-hand column in your OBiTALK account.
(Step 3): Follow the on-screen instructions to configure your Google Voice and, if applicable, the Anveo E911 service on the OBi200/OBi202 device.
(Step 2): Add the replacement OBi200/OBi202 device to your OBiTALK account by selecting the ‘Add Device’ link in the left-hand column in your OBiTALK account.
(Step 3): Follow the on-screen instructions to configure your Google Voice and, if applicable, the Anveo E911 service on the OBi200/OBi202 device.
